Langhe bianco Rossj-Bass, Gaja - 2023

  • Provenance: Piedmont
  • Appellation: Langhe
  • Domain: Gaja
  • Grape variety(ies): Chardonnay
  • On-call time: 10 years
  • Alcohol degree: 13%
A great terroir Chardonnay from the Gaja family, Rossj-Bass seduces with a nose that combines floral scents with fine notes of citrus and honey. The wine is beautifully vinous and taut, with the ageing highlighting the wine and giving it momentum and drive. If it can be enjoyed young, with 30 minutes of decanting, it will benefit from being more complex for a few years in bottle. A reference.

Viticulture

The grapes come from 3 areas: the Rossj vineyard, dedicated to Angelo Gaja's second daughter, Rossana: 2 ha planted in 1984 on Barbaresco, in the locality of Bricco, on a thin clay-limestone soil; 2 ha on the vineyard named Bass, also planted in 1984, and located in the locality of Pozzo: here the soil is richer and less compact; and the last vines on Serralunga d'Alba (3 ha), on clay with a calcareous character. First vintage: 1988.

Oenology

Fermentation in steel tanks for a period of 4 weeks. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 6 to 7 months, where it completes its malolactic fermentation.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Langoustines just stiffened on a carrot and leek tartlet - Fillet of brill with herbs.

Producer of Barolo and of Barbaresco.
