Xérès VORS Moscatel Toneles, Valdespino (37.5 cl)

  • Provenance: Andalousia
  • Appellation: Xeres
  • Domain: Valdespino
  • Grape variety(ies): Moscatel
  • Style of wine: Vin de méditation
  • Alcohol degree: 15%
Dark mahogany with a dark green rim, this "out of proportion" wine develops a spectacular nose of eucalyptus, balsamic, sweet spices, coffee, caramelised hazelnuts and dark chocolate. Very intense on the palate, with a delicate structure, it delivers flavours of mint, candied orange peel, lime and mandarin. It stretches endlessly on the spices, with a baroque but elegant sensation of freshness. Unique. 100/100 Wine Advocate, R. Parker

Viticulture

It is an extremely old and powerful Moscatel, literally forgotten in its maturing casks for a long time, as there was simply no market for it. The name Toneles refers to the type of cask called a tonel, which can hold about 1000 litres. The solera line of this wine is composed of just one of these toneles.

Oenology

The age of the bottled wine is almost impossible to determine: the minimum is 80 years, but it is probably a hundred years old. Only 100 half-bottles are taken from the solera cask each year. Each time the wine is bottled, the solera system is supplemented with Moscatel Promesa solera wine. Although such a wine would deserve the highest age distinction, Moscatel Toneles is not labelled VORS (very long ageing), as age designations and classifications do not exist for Moscatel.

Suggestions for accompaniment

To be sipped for itself, alone, religiously.
