The Schoenenbourg, renowned since the Middle Ages, is the jewel in the crown of the Riquewihr vineyard. It is distinguished by its topography (south-facing, at the bottom of the valley, steep slope) and its very special geology: iridescent and gypseous marl from the Keuper, more or less mixed and covered by scattered Vosges sandstone. The combination of a light, non-sticky soil and a clay subsoil, rich in fertilizing elements, with good water retention, undoubtedly explains the dominant character of the terroir on the vine.
