Deep, opaque purple-black colour with dark purple highlights. This wine is distinguished by its racy, elegant character, offering an intense nose of blackcurrants and forest fruits, delicately enveloped by herbal touches, as well as subtle fragrances of violets and rose petals. True to Taylor's signature, elegance and subtlety mask a power and inner energy that reveal the wine's full vigour. On the palate, the fine, nervous tannins and great precision are characteristic of the house, underpinning the bright, perfectly defined fruit, which majestically bears the signature of its vintage.18/20 Jancis Robinson. 95/100 Wine Advocate, R. Parker; 94/100 Wine Spectator; 97/100 Wine Enthusiast.

Viticulture

The 2003 vintage began with a particularly wet winter. Flowering took place under clear skies, with ideal conditions at the end of May, among the best seen for several years. At the beginning of August, two weeks of intense heat marked this summer period, a factor often synonymous with exceptional Vintage Port. The harvest, which began in September, took place in hot, dry weather, resulting in balanced yields from the different grape varieties, guaranteeing harmony and complexity in the wine. As a result, this vintage promises to be an exceptional Vintage Port, which, according to Robert Parker, ‘will rival the greatest Ports ever produced by this house’.

Oenology

After the harvest, these wines are selected by the estate's panel of tasters, then matured in oak tuns for two winters. They are then tasted again the following spring. If their quality proves exceptional, they are retained for the final blend.

Suggestions for accompaniment

To be drunk after a few years of ageing with a jugged hare, a stilton, a dark chocolate dessert or to accompany a cigar.
