Viticulture
The 1985 vintage was preceded by a particularly dry and cold winter. Bud-break occurred at the beginning of April, followed by flowering towards the end of May. After a generally warm summer, the harvest began on 26 September, revealing from the outset an exceptional year for Port wines.
Oenology
After the harvest, these wines are selected by the estate's panel of tasters, then matured in oak tuns for two winters. They are then tasted again the following spring. If their quality proves exceptional, they are retained for the final blend.
Suggestions for accompaniment
To be drunk after a few years of ageing with a jugged hare, a stilton, a dark chocolate dessert or to accompany a cigar.
