Jura

  • Image Jura no.0
Located in the Revermont (Franche-Comté and Jura departments), the Jura vineyard did not enjoy the fame it deserves until recently, except for its Vin Jaune and Château-Chalon. Its small size (just over 2000 ha) was the main reason for this. The arrival thirty years ago of a new generation and the installation of new winegrowers have, like what has happened in other "peripheral" vineyards, made the jewel visible. The wines produced here are distinguished, at their best, by their style, their originality of expression and their impeccable price/pleasure ratio, whether they are whites, made from Savagnin (known in Valais as Heida or Païen) or Chardonnay, or reds, whose indigenous grape varieties (Poulsard and Trousseau) easily compete with Pinot Noir to exalt the Jura terroir (limestone mingled with various types of marl). Not forgetting, of course, the jewels in the crown, the Vin Jaune and the Château-Chalon, wines that are as much to be tamed as they are to be earned and that allow the demanding and patient wine lover to enter a world of fascinating gustatory mysteries.
