The Irouléguy vineyard stretches across the slopes of the western Pyrenees, where vines are often planted on terraces to control the steep gradient. The soils, composed of sandstone, schist and clay, provide ideal natural drainage. The humid and temperate Atlantic climate is counterbalanced by the influence of the mountains, which bring coolness and temperature variation. These demanding conditions give rise to intense, structured and naturally balanced wines.
The reds are based on Tannat, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. They are distinguished by their firm structure, red and black fruit aromas, and spicy and floral notes. The whites, made mainly from Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng, offer a lively and aromatic expression, combining exotic fruits, citrus and minerality. Together, they reflect the authenticity and energy of the Basque terroir.
An Irouléguy red reveals notes of cherry, blackberry, pepper and violet, supported by a solid structure and prominent tannins. The whites are characterised by their tension, citrus and exotic fruit aromas and a salty finish. Whether red or white, an Irouléguy seduces with its frank personality and mountainous expression.
Cool vintages enhance the liveliness and tannic structure, while warmer years bring more roundness. Reds generally keep for between five and ten years, and whites for between three and seven years, particularly those made from Petit Manseng. At the table, Irouléguy is the ideal accompaniment to grilled meats, lamb, Basque dishes, sheep's milk cheeses or fish in sauce for whites. The diversity of producers allows you to explore varied interpretations of this unique Basque Country terroir.
