Graubünden

Graubünden

"To all honour": if one were to judge by the reputation of its wines, the vineyards of Graubünden would be at the top of the Swiss wine charts. For a number of years now, the Graubünden wine region has been experiencing an extraordinary boom. The quality of the wines produced here is the first key to understanding this. The tourist attraction of Graubünden and the power of attraction of the posh resorts is another. To this must be added the confidential nature of most of the wines produced. With a surface area of 420 ha, the vineyards of the Bündner Herrschaft (the Grisons' Lordship) are among the most confidential. It is also one of the most aesthetic, set in the lower slopes of the Falknis, punctuated by four emblematic villages: Fläsch, Maienfeld, Malans and Jenins. To which must be added Igis, Zizers, Trimmis and the surroundings of Chur for the second part of the vineyard (Churer Rheintal). Blauburgunder (or pinot noir) reigns supreme here, accounting for more than 70% of the vineyards. Under the impetus of a handful of dynamic, ambitious winegrowers, this variety has found a very original area of expression on these limestone soils with their particular micro-climate.
