Located on the Contrada Santo Spirito, one of the best terroirs in Sicily (the north-eastern slopes of Mount Etna), these old vines - some of them pre-phylloxera - give rise to this exceptional vintage: a superb exotic, cocoa-scented nose, which precedes a palate of extraordinary suavity and elegance of texture. The tannin is coated, refined, sublime. A great wine!

Technique

Viticulture

The vineyards are located in the Contrada S. Spirito, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The plantations were made in 1950 and 1960, but some of the vines are pre-phylloxera. Soil of volcanic ash. The vineyards are on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. Santo Spirito is the last "Cru" purchased by MDG, and is a very famous terroir locally.

Oenology

Maceration for 10 to 15 days followed by 18 months in oak barrels (25% new wood). Malolactic fermentation is done in barrel. Unfiltered.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Duck pie with spices - Guinea fowl with morels - Pheasant with juniper.

Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Created in the early 2000s by the charismatic Marco De Grazia, Tenuta delle Terre Nere is located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in the most renowned area. The property consists of 34 hectares divided into 24 plots. Due to the volcanic origin, the soils differ greatly from one vineyard to another and also within each one, which increases the complexity of the wines as much as their personality.
