Etna bianco Superiore, Salice, T. Terre Nere - 2023

In recent vintages, Marco de Grazia has been able to acquire a very old vineyard in the village of Milo, an ancient terroir situated to the east of the volcano and with a great reputation for white wines. On the nose the wine is strikingly floral and fruity (citrus). It shows extra body, depth and finesse compared to the estate's wines. The elegant acidity makes it vibrant and long.

Technique

Viticulture

Municipality of Milo, east of the volcano, province of Catania. Surface of the vineyard: 1.5 ha. Volcanic soil, very sandy, shallow, poor. Southeast slope of Mount Etna, at 850 metres. Average age of the vines: between 50 and 80 years. Goblet pruning. Harvested in the first decade of October.

Oenology

Soft pressing, low temperature fermentation in 5 and 10 hl French oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation and maturation in French oak demi-muids for 10 months, then in bottle for 8 months.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Cherry tomato, mozzarella di buffala and fresh basil salad - Pan-fried squid in olive oil - Seafood orecchiette.

Created in the early 2000s by the charismatic Marco De Grazia, Tenuta delle Terre Nere is located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in the most renowned area. The property consists of 34 hectares divided into 24 plots. Due to the volcanic origin, the soils differ greatly from one vineyard to another and also within each one, which increases the complexity of the wines as much as their personality.
