If there is one wine that we would like to present to show what a fine Côte Rôtie can - and should - be, it is perhaps this cuvée that we would go for, as it crystallises the qualities of perfume, finesse and freshness of the best representatives of the appellation. The tannin is silky and does not thwart a languid and generous texture, tasty. Simply jubilant!

Viticulture

This cuvée takes its name from "Fortis fortuna fortior": luck strengthens valour. This was the motto of the estate's owner in the 17th century, a marshal of France under Louis XIV. This wine comes from the slopes of blond granite soil (leuco-gneiss), south of Ampuis.

Oenology

100% de-stemming, cold maceration for 1 week, punching down twice a day for 3 to 4 weeks, pumping over twice a day for 3 to 4 weeks, long and progressive fermentation, pneumatic pressing at low pressure to avoid bursting the pips. Aged 19 months in new French oak demi-muids (580 litres).

Suggestions for accompaniment

Pithivier of duck with foie gras Eric Briffard style - Entrecote of venison - Perdreau or roast pheasant.
