IGP, La Syrah à Papa, Dom. du Monteillet - 2021

This cuvée pays tribute to Stéphane Montez' father. It is vinified "à l'ancienne", i.e. partially in whole bunches, in order to enhance the fine and peppery character of the grape variety. The result is a wine with a ruby colour and purple tints. The nose of pepper, liquorice and black fruits is archetypal of what we like in the Rhone serine. It precedes a greedy and slippery mouth.

Viticulture

The vines for this pure Syrah come from a tenanted plot opposite the estate on the other side of the Rhône on the left bank, with a terrace of rolled Rhône pebbles which, warmed by the sun, diffuse a gentle heat at night, favouring the concentration and ripeness of the grapes; and a granite plot next to the estate.

Oenology

60% de-stemming. Pre-fermentation maceration for one week, then maceration for 3 weeks using the old immersed cap technique. Long, gradual fermentation without temperature control. Low-pressure pneumatic pressing to avoid bursting the pips. Aged for 15 months in French oak demi-muids.
