After two magnificent vintages in 2021 and 2022, what else could Yquem offer to satisfy enthusiasts? A sublime 2023. Noble rot reaches remarkable expression here, making this vintage part of a trilogy of great consistency. It combines the crystalline freshness of 2021 with the sunny generosity of 2022. The nose is pure and dense, evoking rhubarb and citrus fruits, enhanced by hints of beeswax. The palate is full-bodied and enveloping, carried by a texture with almond accents that emphasise its power. The substance unfolds with depth on notes of apricot and mandarin. The long, flavourful finish confirms the intensity of this vintage, which is destined to reveal its full potential over the years.

Technique

Viticulture

Château d'Yquem, a legendary wine, is the only Sauternes 1er Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification. Its unique quality has made it the ultimate benchmark for sweet wines. The 103-hectare vineyard enjoys ideal exposure and a terroir consisting of large gravelly pebbles on the surface, set on a clay subsoil. The average age of the vines is 35 years. Planting density is 6,700 vines/ha, with a yield of one glass per vine!

Oenology

Harvesting requires 5 to 6 selections, spread over 6 to 10 weeks. After pressing and fermentation, a long period in 100% new barrels begins. Each day's harvest is aged separately for 6 to 8 months. The following spring, the wine is pre-assembled. The wine is bottled during the 4th spring following the harvest, after a light fining. The bts are closed with a 54mm cork, a guarantee of long ageing.
