Chartreuse jaune, 43° (70 cl)

It is made with the same plants as Verte, but in different proportions; it is lower in alcohol and tastes sweeter, with floral, honey and spice (saffron) flavours. It can of course be drunk as a digestif, but it can be a wonderful match for citrus desserts. It is the ideal vintage to start drinking Chartreuse and probably the easiest to access.

Characteristics

130 plants are essential for making Chartreuse liqueurs: they are listed in the manuscript that the Maréchal d'Estrées gave to the Carthusian Fathers in 1605.

Oenology

Only three brothers, designated by their Order, know the name and have learned how to blend and distil them. They alone hold the secret of how to obtain the world-famous green and yellow colours naturally by maceration of certain plants. The brothers also take care of the slow ageing in oak casks and half casks.
