Cavesa le CAVE, le club des amateurs de vins exquis

Barbaresco Marcorino, Bruno Rocca - 2021

This is the estate's new cru and 2021 is the first vintage. Powerful, structured and full-bodied, the wine has a brilliant colour. Pronounced notes of red berries (redcurrant, raspberry, wild strawberry) evoke freshness and intensity. A complex, elegant flavour, remarkably persistent, for a radiant wine of great style, whose balance evokes Burgundy.

Viticulture

The Marcorino grapes come from a steep vineyard just below the ancient medieval village of Neive. This vineyard enjoys a south-east exposure, which is rare for Barbaresco: this results in a different, slower ripening and a late harvest. The vineyard covers 0.86 hectares and features old vines planted in 1963 with rootstocks recovered from an old vineyard in Bernino (a hamlet in Barbaresco) by the previous owner. The soil is clay-limestone with layers of clay and silt.

Oenology

Vinification in stainless steel vats for around 30-40 days, with the cap immersed. Matured for around 12-16 months in large tuns.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Game birds - Pigeon - Grilled red meat - Hare "à la royale".

Domain

If there is a world-renowned terroir in Barbaresco, it is Rabajà! When his father died in 1978, Bruno Rocca returned to the family estate created in the 1950s. At the time, the estate only covered 5 hectares and still bottled few wines under its label. But things have changed since then and he now works with his son Francesco, an oenologist, and his daughter Luisa, who is in charge of marketing. The estate now boasts 15 hectares of vines, 5 of which are in Rabajà, making it the largest owner of the area. The soil here is a mixture of clay, tuff, marl and limestone. The exposure varies from southwest to south and the altitude from 260 to 315 metres. The vines are on average 40 to 50 years old and are grown organically, but without certification.
