Riesling Volz, Van Volxem - 2021

Roman Niewodniczanski calls it a "little Sharzhof" and says that if there were such a thing as First Growths in Mosel, this would be one of the very best, like Vosne-Suchots or Malconsorts in Burgundy. It is a wine of great energy: its ripe and fresh structure is as seductive as the crystalline purity of its perfumes, with honeysuckle, Menton lemon and a hint of fresh blackcurrant.

Viticulture

The vines are about 60 years old and are situated on slopes on various Devonian schist soils, with mixtures of rhyolite, porphyry and quartz of volcanic origin. The Volz was an isolated vineyard until 1971 and is now part of the Wiltinger Braunfels vineyard. In the Prussian wine map of 1968, this terroir bordering on Scharzhofberg was nevertheless privileged to be classified as a Grand Cru.

Suggestions for accompaniment
