The exposure of Clos les Montys and its exceptional terroir (topsoil dotted with sandstone on amphibolite and metagabbro bedrock) give the vines an unusual precocity. In fact, they are among the first to unfurl their leaves in spring. Paradoxically, this terroir, known as “green rock,” produces grapes with thick skins (thanks to calcium) that do not spoil and can be harvested quite late.
