IGP St-Guilhem-le-D., Mas de Daumas Gassac rouge - 2015

Harvesting of the reds began on Wednesday 10 September with the 'collection' plot of rare grape varieties, followed by Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, Tannat, Pinot, Dolcetto and Cabernet Franc. The tour ended on Sunday 14 September, in glorious sunshine, with the PeyraFioc Cabernet Sauvignon (the oldest vine, planted in 1972). Initial tastings revealed roasted aromas (cocoa, coffee) associated with the wood, as well as black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant) and moderate alcohol levels (12.8-13°). This is a vintage of great balance, with good acidity and elegant, mouth-watering flavours. Without doubt, a future classic! Viticulture

Mas de Daumas Gassac is located in the middle of the Arboussas massif, on deep, perfectly drained soil that is poor in humus and plant matter and rich in mineral oxides. This terroir was formed during the accumulation of glacial gravel by the wind during the Riss, Mindel and Guntz glaciations.

Oenology

Classic Médoc vinification - long maceration - no filtration. Maturation for 12 to 15 months in oak barrels (aged 1 to 7 years).

Suggestions for accompaniment

Rack of lamb, cream of split peas with cumin - Duck breast with honey and sherry vinegar - Venison hazelnuts.
