Cavesa le CAVE, le club des amateurs de vins exquis

Collioure rouge, Abysses, Coume del Mas - 2020

The nose is classic of the great schist reds, with hints of dark chocolate, blueberry and liquorice, enhanced by ambitious but high-quality ageing. The tannins are fine and plentiful, accentuating the wine’s sensation of density, but without tipping over into heaviness. The finish, with notes of truffle, is extremely noble and promising. It can be drunk decanted for an hour at 16°C. Guide Vert RVF: 91/100

Domain
Created by Nathalie and Philippe Gard, Coume Del Mas was created with the 2001 vintage. Located in the hamlet of Cosprons, it now covers 14 hectares spread over 32 plots of land in the communes of Banyuls and Collioure. This vineyard, because of its relief, its subsoil and its geographical situation, is one of the last original witnesses of the heroic viticulture known as mountain viticulture. While some plots of land reach an altitude of nearly 380 metres, others literally plunge into the Mediterranean. But without exception, all of them claim to be on dizzying slopes, making mechanisation impossible and human intervention decisive. The soil is actually Cambrian schist, deposited on a skeletal soil held in place by a system of terraces (fexes). This type of shale is not very common in Europe, and is found mainly here and in Portugal (Porto). They are very old, very acidic, very rich in metals (iron, aluminium) and give the vines wines of great character, with exacerbated freshness and tension, which we remember.
