The estate's best croup is very similar to that of Mouton: very warm, medium-grained gravel, but, according to Professor Enjalbert, the richer subsoil of marl and limestone (St-Estèphe type) explains the slightly less refined bouquet. Recent vintages have brought out racy nuances of tobacco and Havana, not found in any other Pauillac cru with such intensity and purity.
Oenology
Grand Vin ageing: around 60% new barrels per year, 40% one-wine barrels. Barrel ageing time: 15 to 20 months. Fining with egg white.
