The best hillside on the estate is very similar to that of Mouton: very warm, medium gravel, but according to Professor Enjalbert, the richer subsoil of marl and limestone (St-Estèphe type) explains the slightly less refined bouquet. Recent vintages have brought out very racy hints of tobacco and Havana, which cannot be found in any other Pauillac cru with such intensity and purity.
Oenology
Ageing of the Grand Vin: around 60% new barrels per year, 40% one-wine barrels. Time in barrel: 15 to 20 months. Fining with egg white.
