Barbaresco, Rocche dei 7 Fratelli, Lodali - 2020

  • Provenance: Piedmont
  • Appellation: Barbaresco
  • Domain: Lodali
  • Grape variety(ies): Nebbiolo
  • On-call time: 15 years
  • Alcohol degree: 14.5%
For those who know a little about the Langhe, the Rocche dei 7 Fratelli is one of the most beautiful sights, with this spectacular chasm created by the erosive action of the water, which has consumed the marl soil of marine origin. The vineyard that bears the same name overlooks it and produces a wine of great style, fragrant, nervous, a Barbaresco in the devil’s own right, with total seduction. Decanter : 93/100

Viticulture

Founded in 1939, just as the Second World War was beginning, this family estate is literally being reborn, under the leadership of Walter Lodali and his mother, the sparkling Rita. The grapes for this cuvée come exclusively from the vineyard of the same name in the municipality of Treiso.

Oenology

Hand-harvested, crushed, destemmed, temperature-controlled maceration for around 18 days. Aged for 18 months in 26 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels and 6 months in bottle.

Suggestions for accompaniment

oast duck • Saddle of chamois • White truffle risotto.

This is our big discovery of the Vinitaly 2022 show! Founded in 1939, just as the Second World War was beginning, this family estate is literally being reborn, under the leadership of Walter Lodali and his mother, the sparkling Rita. We met this winemaker through our friend Gianni Fabrizio, director of the famous Gambero Rosso guide. And it was love at first sight! Walter is a charming guy who has the humanity and charisma of the great winemakers of the region. As the great gourmet that he is, he makes very fine and very fair wines, accessible young and vinified - above all - for the table. But don't be fooled, finesse does not mean thinness; and the vintages have the necessary depth to age (very) well. Moreover, if the Barolo and Barbaresco are the pride of the estate, the "varietal" vintages are models of their kind and we were thrilled by their formal perfection. In fact, the discovery of Walter Lodali's wines reminded us of our first contact with those of Azienda Comm. GB Burlotto, in 2010. Here's to hearing it.
