The Ilercavones (the Iberians, who lived in the region from the 6th to the 1st century BC) left a strong mark locally in terms of tradition and heritage. Made from vines over 45 years old, this cuvée is a tribute to them. It has a lovely nose of orchard fruits and white flowers. We love the juicy and energetic side of the palate, the powdery texture that evokes limestone, without lacking fat, breath and length!

Viticulture

Ilercavones was the name of an Iberian people who occupied the territory of the Ebro basin, in the provinces of Castellon and Tarragona in Spain. This people was the one who named the Terra Alta (Upper Land) and the neighbouring regions, between the 1st and 6th centuries BC. They left behind their mark, which bears witness to a prosperous past. This wine is a tribute to them.

Oenology

Calcareous and silty soils, with low organic matter content. Harvested in 20 kg crates. Maceration with the skins for 36 hours. Fermentation at a controlled temperature of 16°C. Aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Hake with seaweed and spring onions - Grapefruit and quinoa lacquered sweetbreads.

Domain
Altavins Viticultors was founded in 2001 by Joan Arrufí and Jordi Casado, two wine enthusiasts, in the heart of the DO Terra Alta, located in the southwest of Catalonia, 200 kilometres from Barcelona, where the soil is rich in silt and poor in organic matter. The vineyard is located between 350 and 550 metres above sea level. It has a Mediterranean climate with little rainfall (between 350 and 450 mm per year), high light levels and is influenced by two dominant winds, the Cierzo (from the Ebro valley) and the Garbi (from the sea). In addition, the nature of the soil provides the grapes with an exceptionally high concentration of minerals, which is felt in the wines with an effect of salinity and freshness that is rare in Catalonia and welcome at the table, with sunny cuisine.
