Savennières, Clos Serteaux, Eric Morgat - 2019

It is a winegrower's dream: to give birth to a place, to accompany a forgotten land in its metamorphosis and to humbly gather a taste, a flavour, a new song. To begin by clearing the ground, planting, then understanding and doubting. More than ten years ago, contemplating the Loire from the top of a closed garden overlooking the Pierre Bécherelle, Éric Morgat had this dream. How could he resist the call of one of the most beautiful hillsides in Savennières, painted in 1826 by William Turner? First the river which reflects the light and moderates the climate, then the steep slope and finally the south-east facing sandstone schists, each element plays its part here. Their forces combine to transcend the Chenin into an as yet unknown expression that cannot be compared to any other. A careful study of the old Napoleonic cadastre has revealed the original name: Clos Serteaux.

Fermented and matured in barrels for one year, then in stoneware jars and stainless steel vats for 10 months.

Attention, grand vigneron idéaliste, qui a poussé la réflexion de sa viticulture, de son parcellaire et du vin de Savennières à son paroxysme, afin de produire non pas des grands vins de nez, mais bien des grands vins de bouche, d'une originalité de saveur et de texture folles, qui ne ressemblent à aucun autre au sein de l'appellation et vieilliront à merveille. Ajoutons qu'il est coaché par Fabien Duperray, qui a également contribué à l'émergence de grands vignerons tel Arnaud Ente et vous comprendrez que ses crus ont tout pour devenir cultes.
