Viticulture
Le Clos Rougeard is a distinguished name among the great wines of Saumur and Saumur-Champigny. With a viticultural history dating back to the 17th century, the estate—first under the stewardship of the Foucault family and, since 2017, Martin and Olivier Bouygues—has maintained a steadfast commitment to organic farming, producing wines whose excellence matches their rarity. The 2016 Poyeux from Clos Rougeard comes from the eponymous vineyard, renowned since the 17th century for the quality of its wines. This exceptional terroir, covering nearly two hectares, lies on a gentle slope with a rich clay-limestone soil.
Oenology
The wines are produced with as little intervention as possible (in particular, very little sulphur) and are aged for 18-24 months.
Suggestions for accompaniment
