Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido - 2014

Aromas of red berry, blue flower, menthol, exotic spice and a whiff of French oak take shape on this impeccably balanced radiant red. The palate is vibrant and focused—almost ethereal—delivering raspberry compote, Marasca cherry, star anise and cinnamon framed in elegant tannins. Weightless and loaded with finesse, it's an incredible result for what was a cool wet vintage in most of Italy. 95/100. - Wine Enthusiast; Falstaff : 94/100 ; JM Quarin : 94/100.

Viticulture

The history of Sassicaia began in 1944 when Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta planted the first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the Bolgheri region of the Tuscan Maremma. In Tuscan dialect, sassicaia is a term used to describe very stony ground. The vineyard is located in the hills, between 100 and 300 metres above sea level, on very poor soil.

Oenology

Maceration for 2 weeks, then aged in French oak barrels for 22-24 months. One third of the barrels are new. 180,000 bottles currently produced.

Suggestions for accompaniment
