"Dark, shimmering ruby purple colour. Memorable nose, presents itself with lots of juicy fruit, especially cassis and blueberry, with some smoky notes in the background. Fresh and surprisingly juicy on the palate, grippy, very well-integrated tannins, shows good tension, lingers for a very long time; a bottle that you'll simply want to finish! 98/100." - Falstaff ;Jane Anson : 99/100 ; James Suckling : 98/100 ; The Wine Advocate : 97/100.

Viticulture

Renowned far beyond the Italian Mediterranean coast, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia has established itself among the greatest names in Italian wine. Its vineyard, located near the hills of Bolgheri, benefits from both refreshing sea breezes and natural protection from winter winds. This unique terroir, a veritable mosaic of clay-sand soils of marine, alluvial, and volcanic origin, forges the distinctive character of Ornellaia wines.

Oenology

The grapes were harvested manually and carefully sorted, first by hand and then using optical sorting. Each grape variety and each plot was vinified separately in stainless steel and concrete vats, with fermentation at between 26 and 30°C, followed by maceration for around 15 days. Malolactic fermentation took place mainly in barrels (70% new). The wine was aged for 18 months, including 12 months before blending and 6 months after, followed by 12 months of bottle ageing before release.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Duck breast with blackberry-red wine reduction - Rosemary and garlic lamb chops - Beef tenderloin with truffle mashed potatoes.
