  • Provenance: Bordeaux
  • Appellation: Saint-Estèphe
  • Domain: Montrose
  • Grape variety(ies): Cabernet sauvignon 65%, merlot 34%, cabernet franc
  • On-call time: 12 years
  • 92/100 Note: 92/100
A ton of dark fruits on offer in the form of cassis, bilberry, blackcurrant, brambles of blackberry and raspberry, a ton of spice and sinew. Bitter almond and chocolate notes come in on the finish and add to the feel of a signature Dame de Montrose. Not the exoticism of 2018, this is more of a return to classicism, closer to the 2019 or 2016. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend. A yield of around 29hl/ha. - Decanter. Guide Vert RVF : 93/100

Viticulture

In 1778, Etienne Théodore Dumoulin bought a piece of moorland belonging to the Ségur family at auction. Suspecting that vines could be grown there, he gradually cleared the land and planted the first hectares of Montrose. The Château's vines cover a vast, homogeneous area of land along the Gironde, on a siliceous-gravelly hilltop, above a superbly exposed clay-marl layer. 2nd wine: Dame de Montrose.

Oenology

After manual harvesting, the grapes are sorted before being poured into temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic maceration lasts about 30 days. The Grand Vin de Montrose will be aged in barrels, 70% new, for 18 months.
