Cavesa le CAVE, le club des amateurs de vins exquis

Genève, Syrah, Domaine d'Esize - Ch. Bosson - 2022

Like the estate's Chardonnay, this rare Syrah is also a new cuvee. Pigeon blood colour, like ink. It opens with black olive, graphite, rose and lychee, with purity and finesse. A wine of half body, with a noble vegetal attack, then it opens up and develops a tense and nervous structure. A wine full of promise, which will delight lovers of pure Syrah.

Viticulture

Coteau de Bardonnex, facing south/south-west on glacial moraines of the Rhône, a magnificent but little known terroir of Geneva. Environmentally friendly cultivation. Four-year-old vine, selected by a nurseryman from Fréterive in Savoie.

Oenology

100% de-stemmed grapes, round grapes, cold pre-fermentation maceration, light pumping over, mixed ageing in barrels and vats.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Kidneys with marsala sauce - Pork ribs with honey - Lamb tagine.

Domain
Christophe Bosson of Terre d'Esize, a man who is already becoming a key figure in the Geneva vineyard. His talents as a sensible and reasonable farmer are well known, but we can now finally taste his talents as a winemaker, as he has been producing his own wines since the 2014 vintage. He produces splendid wines on the magnificent but little known Bardonnex hillside. This south/south-west facing slope, on glacial moraines of the Rhône, is undoubtedly reminiscent of a "small" Hermitage mountain, a Swiss version. A great terroir is being reborn and must be discovered at all costs. The style of the estate is one of density of substance combined with great finesse of tannins for the reds. The ageing, in wood, is magnificently integrated and not detectable. Moreover, Christophe Bosson having learned "on the job" and not having followed any academic oenological training, his wines are devoid of any "good student" side but rather express a great frankness and restraint, in the image of the winemaker himself. Often reserved when opened, they work magnificently with air, in the glass. They are often even better the next day! This is to be underlined for the ageing.
