Definition: Millerandage

A condition caused by poor fertilisation of grape berries, which remain small (millerandage) and reduce yield. Millerandage is one of the main consequences of coulure, or partial fertilisation of the flower, caused by poor weather conditions (cold and rain) during this delicate stage of growth. Local synonym in French-speaking Switzerland: meillerin.
