Definition: blayais

Associated with the Bourgeais, the Blayais is located on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, north of Bordeaux. The wines from this region are somewhat overshadowed by those from other areas of Bordeaux, and winemaking techniques would need to be improved, yields limited and barrels replaced annually for the situation to change. However, it is also true that a few large estates produce excellent wines in Côtes-de-Blaye and Côtes-de-Bourg.
