Côtes de Bordeaux - Francs, Prairie, Château Marsau - 2019

  • Provenance: Bordeaux
  • Appellation: Côtes de Francs
  • Domain: Marsau
  • Grape variety(ies): Merlot
  • On-call time: 7 years
  • Alcohol degree: 14%
Ruby-purple in colour with black highlights, it has a nose of pepper, blueberry and dried violet. On the palate, we are won over by its very fine grain, its fantastic drinkability and its juicy greediness, rare in Bordeaux. Both dense in tannins and "relaxed" in its structure, it is a delight at the table. A 100% anti-Bordeaux-bashing vintage, just in time for the good times. Guide Vert RVF : 90/100

Domain
A few kilometres east of St-Emilion, not far from the village of Francs, facing the Montaigne region, the Marsau vines occupy one of the highest points of the appellation. In this setting of preserved biodiversity, on slopes facing south, the vines sink their roots into clay soils ideally suited to Merlot. But here, this grape variety behaves a little differently from other parts of the Bordeaux vineyard, as its berries remain very small, bluish, rich in bloom, a little like Cabernets. They give birth to a wine of transcendent finesse, magnified by the careful and expert hands of Anne-Laurence and Mathieu Chadronnier, his "parents".
