Cheverny, Le Point du Jour (pinot, gamay), Tessier - 2021

  • Provenance: Loire
  • Appellation: Cheverny
  • Domain: Tessier
  • Grape variety(ies): Pinot noir 80%, gamay 20%
  • On-call time: 7 years
  • Alcohol degree: 12%
It is regularly one of - if not the - best red(s) on the estate. It has a bright, lively colour. The whole bunch vinification gives off floral and spicy notes (cinnamon, cherry and almond). The palate is balanced and marked by fresh red fruit, with a harmonious texture and fine tannins. This wine is an absolute delight, drinking it with disconcerting ease!

Suggestions for accompaniment

Starters and terrines - Grilled fish - Grilled poultry - Canaille dishes (ham on the bone, tripe, offal).

It is the return of an old selection of the CAVE, with which we have renewed because the passage of generations has given birth to geniuously fleshy, sensual and perfumed Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny, which wonderfully express the originality of their terroirs and their grape varieties (pinot-gamay for the reds; romorantin, sauvignon, orbois and chardonnay for the whites). The 26 hectare estate is located on the route of the Loire castles (Chambord, Cheverny, Blois and Troussay). Philippe Tessier took over the estate in 1981, which his father Roger had created in 1961. In February 2020, his son Simon took over. The microclimate is influenced by the Loire River and the Cheverny, Chambord and Sologne forests. Three types of soil are highlighted: silico-clay, silico-clay-limestone and gravel, all on limestone bedrock. Each of these types of soil has its own particular characteristics, hence the interest in blending them in the estate's cuvées. We were delighted with these wines, which were our favourites at this winter's wine fairs in the Loire Valley!
