Cheverny blanc (sauvignon, orbois, chardonnay), Tessier - 2022

  • Provenance: Loire
  • Appellation: Cheverny
  • Domain: Tessier
  • Grape variety(ies): Sauvignon 82%, orbois 11%, chardonnay 7%
  • On-call time: 5 years
  • Alcohol degree: 13.5%
This is a textbook wine, defining both the style of the estate and the originality of the wines in its appellation, with a singular grape variety. It combines Sauvignon for fruit, Chardonnay for fatness and the ancient and rare Orbois for liveliness. The nose is delicate and fresh, with aromas of blackcurrant, floral notes and white peach. The palate is vinous, juicy and full-bodied.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Shellfish • Smoked salmon • Charcuterie and goat’s cheeses from the Loire.

It is the return of an old selection of the CAVE, with which we have renewed because the passage of generations has given birth to geniuously fleshy, sensual and perfumed Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny, which wonderfully express the originality of their terroirs and their grape varieties (pinot-gamay for the reds; romorantin, sauvignon, orbois and chardonnay for the whites). The 26 hectare estate is located on the route of the Loire castles (Chambord, Cheverny, Blois and Troussay). Philippe Tessier took over the estate in 1981, which his father Roger had created in 1961. In February 2020, his son Simon took over. The microclimate is influenced by the Loire River and the Cheverny, Chambord and Sologne forests. Three types of soil are highlighted: silico-clay, silico-clay-limestone and gravel, all on limestone bedrock. Each of these types of soil has its own particular characteristics, hence the interest in blending them in the estate's cuvées. We were delighted with these wines, which were our favourites at this winter's wine fairs in the Loire Valley!
