Viticulture
Located on the plateau of Pomerol, Château Taillefer takes its name from a typical feature of the appellation, iron oxides. The old people say that the plough "cuts iron" here because of the amount of iron it raises in this vineyard. Location: plateau of Pomerol (altitude 25 m). Soil: silica and gravel on blue clay, rich in iron oxides. Planted area: 12 hectares. Planting density: 6,060 vines/ha. Age of the vines: 35 years. Integrated cultivation, ploughed or grassed soils, mixed guyot pruning, manual green work adapted to each plot.
Oenology
Harvesting with several sortings: maturity and size of the berries, parcel selection. Traditional vinification with gentle and controlled maceration in thermo-regulated concrete vats. Aged for 12 months, 40% in new French oak barrels.
