Château Marsau, Côtes de Bordeaux Francs - 2017

And here is the new Marsau, with a brilliantly floral nose that evokes syrah and even pinot; and takes us far away from Bordeaux! The florality and grace of the vintage bursts through, in some ways reminiscent of the fresh scents of the 2013 but with more everything, as if the flowers had now bloomed. It smells good and it smells strong! A marvellous attack of greed, accuracy, finesse and freshness, the wine has a very natural motricity, an exquisite taste. The nature of the tannins is as if turned upside down, one has the impression of being in direct contact with the terroir, the ageing is invisible, the wine is true. It is a great 2017, with a formidable drinkability: COUP DE COEUR! Guide Vert RVF: 92/100; Jancis Robinson: 16/20; The Wine Independent: 93/100; Jeff Leve: 90/100; Wine Spectator: 90/100; James Suckling: 93/100

Viticulture

The Marsau vines cover 13 hectares on one of the highest points of the appellation, with a clay-limestone terroir with a high clay content that is perfectly suited to Merlot. Today the soils are no longer worked and the Domaine is in organic conversion.

Oenology

After manual harvesting and careful sorting, the vinification process is temperature-controlled. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels and other containers of various sizes and materials.

Domain
A few kilometres east of St-Emilion, not far from the village of Francs, facing the Montaigne region, the Marsau vines occupy one of the highest points of the appellation. In this setting of preserved biodiversity, on slopes facing south, the vines sink their roots into clay soils ideally suited to Merlot. But here, this grape variety behaves a little differently from other parts of the Bordeaux vineyard, as its berries remain very small, bluish, rich in bloom, a little like Cabernets. They give birth to a wine of transcendent finesse, magnified by the careful and expert hands of Anne-Laurence and Mathieu Chadronnier, his "parents".
