Viticulture
Originally, in 1635, the castle belonged to Jean de Moytié. At that time, the estate was named after its owner, and became Mont-Moytié and later Léoville Poyferré. The vineyard is made up of 4 parcels with a total surface area of 80 ha. The soil is composed of glacial gravels resting on a limestone plateau. The average age of the vines is 25 years. The planting density is 9,000 vines/ha. The soils are worked and the fertilizers are organic.
Oenology
The grapes are harvested by hand. Vinification is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and lasts three weeks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels (50%). The Léoville Poyferré wine is aged in French oak barrels, 75% of which are new, for 18 to 20 months.
