Deep, dark colour. Intense nose of cedar, liquorice and balsamic. A very fine overall structure, ascending, with a deep finish built around a velvety tannic structure of great finesse.

Technique

Viticulture

Originally, in 1635, the château belonged to Jean de Moytié. At the time, the estate was traditionally named after its owner, becoming Mont-Moytié and later Léoville Poyferré. The vineyard comprises 4 parcels with a total surface area of 80 ha. The soil is composed of glacial gravel resting on a limestone plateau. The average age of the vines is 25 years. Planting density is 9,000 vines/ha. The soils are worked and organic fertilizers are used.

Oenology

The grapes are harvested by hand. Vinification takes place by plot, in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and lasts three weeks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels (50%). Léoville Poyferré is aged in French oak barrels, 75% of which are new, for 18 to 20 months.
