Viticulture
The estate's current buildings were constructed in 1850, just before Grand-Puy-Lacoste was included in the historic classification of 1855. Situated on the highest point of the Pauillac AOC, the 55-hectare vineyard lies on the ‘Grand Puy’, a 6 to 8-metre-deep gravelly ridge on a thick limestone bedrock. This soil type is synonymous with a great Cabernet terroir. The vines are grown in the traditional way, using a sustainable approach.
Oenology
For some time now, the team has been adopting plot-by-plot selections, with small batches separated into separate vats. The wine undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in these vats. Gentle extraction is carried out by pumping over. Blending is generally undertaken in December, before the wine is placed in barrels with 40 to 60% new oak. Around 5 rackings are carried out over the following 14 to 16 months, before the wine is blended and fined in vats before being bottled.
