Created in the 18th century, the château's reputation stems from Baron Hector de Brane, nicknamed the Napoleon of the Vines, who completely restructured the estate after buying it in 1833, enabling it to be classified in 1855. The Lurton family bought the estate in 1925 and Lucien Lurton managed it from 1956 to 1992. This vast 75-hectare estate lies to the west of Cantenac on the Brane plateau, the highest point in the appellation.
Oenology
The quaternary gravel layer, which can be up to 10 metres deep, explains its classification. Planting density of 6,500 to 8,000 vines/ha, with an average yield of 45 hl/ha. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged on its lees for around two months. After eighteen months in barrel, the wine is fined with fresh egg white in wooden vats and then prepared for bottling.
