Calvados Pays d'Auge 12 ans, Lecompte, 40%

  • Appellation: Calvados
  • Domain: Lecompte
  • On-call time: 30 years
  • Alcohol degree: 40%
With fruit still dominant, the Lecompte 12 year old blend, more complex and intense, surprises with its aromatic maturity. Its beautiful notes of cinnamon and nutmeg associated with aromas of caramelised compote and roasted hazelnuts end on a final note of liquorice. They give it delicacy and length in the mouth... Rated 93/100 (Excellent, Highly Recommended) at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2014.

Characteristics

The history of the House began in 1923 when the wine and spirits merchant, Alexandre Lecompte, decided to sell his business, with the exception of his stocks of old Calvados. Located near orchards producing the best apples in the region, the House is set up in a small farm in the heart of the Pays d'Auge. It now contains nearly 800 oak barrels in 8 cellars. It is located in Notre-Dame-de-Courson, in the Pays d'Auge.

Oenology

Calvados is produced in a delimited area in Normandy. It involves the distillation of cider, followed by blending and maturing exclusively in French oak barrels.
