Viticulture

A wine made from a massal selection collected in Pomerol from a hundred-year-old vineyard. The aim is to rediscover the breed of the old Cabernet Francs of yesteryear.

Oenology

Harvested at optimum maturity. Low-temperature fermentation, gentle extraction. Maceration for 15 days. Aged in stainless steel vats. Little racking. Oxygenation is controlled and very low to preserve the fruit.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Country terrine - Delicatessen - Longeole with lentils.

Domain
In 1854, Louis Carteyron and his son Jacques bought a farm, whose production was divided between fruit and wine. But it was in 1964 that Hubert Carteyron, a descendant, began to market Château Penin directly in bottles. His son, Patrick, represents the fifth generation and took over in 1982 after having worked as an oenologist in various prestigious Gironde appellations. The fruit production disappeared in favour of the vineyard with a resolutely qualitative objective. Modernisation and expansion work followed, until the acquisition, in 2011, of Château La Fleur Penin, in St-Émilion Grand Cru. Today, this family estate, respectful of the environment and the health of the consumer, is regularly rewarded and noticed for the quality and consistency of its wines, true references of the immense Bordeaux Supérieur appellation. And not content with shining in reds, Mr. Carteyron has also made a speciality of rosés, which he masters like few others, whether it be the colourful and vinous Clairet or the subtle and refreshing Bordeaux rosé.
