Characteristics
Caol Ila was built in 1846 and is the largest of the eight distilleries on the island of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland. The distillery is located on the isolated northeastern corner of the island, opposite the island of Jura. The name Caol Ila means Islay Sound (or strait) in Gaelic and was chosen because of its proximity to the island of Jura.
Oenology
Distilled in 2009 by Caol Ila, bottled in 2023 by Berry Bros & Rudd, and matured in a Hogshead cask.
