The Chinese grow nearly a thousand different varieties of rice. Among them, the flagship, the rice of rices, reserved for the imperial court and known as "forbidden rice" because of its aphrodisiac virtues. Since then, the Italians have been able to crossbreed it and adapt it to the moods of the Lombardy rice fields, renaming it Riso venere.
