Viticulture
The Château was created in 1970 by Jean-Eugène Borie on the Lalande terroir which he acquired that year from a GCC in St-Julien and to which he added his own name. The estate, located in the heart of the terroirs of several renowned Grands Crus Classés, is made up of a single parcel of land covering 30 hectares, of which 22 hectares are currently planted. The soil consists of light gravel overlying a subsoil of coarser gravel and clay. The entire vineyard is drained. From the 2018 vintage, Lalande Borie becomes Petit Ducru.
Oenology
With a density of 8,500 vines per hectare, the vineyard is managed in the traditional way, while incorporating the latest advances in viticulture. The grapes are harvested by hand. Sorting is carried out in the vineyard on mobile tables. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out at a relatively low temperature to optimise the fruitiness of the wine. Pumping over is moderate. Malolactic fermentation of the free-run wine and the press wine is carried out in vats to optimise control. The wine is placed in Bordeaux barrels as soon as the blending selections are made, with 20 to 30% new wood depending on the vintage.
