David and Goliath
Alain Signé is the proud owner of Domaine Cheval-Blanc Signé. He is doubly proud because today he can continue to put his mark on his labels. The Bordeaux Court of Appeal has just dismissed Bernard Arnault and Albert Frère's request to cancel this name, which they considered a little too similar to that of their Premier Grand Cru Classé A de Saint-Émilion... This decision goes against the one handed down last June by the Bordeaux Regional Court, which ordered Alain Signé to pay €10,000 in damages to the two partners.
However, the prior existence of the trademark was proven and the court specified that the perception of the two trademarks was completely different and that there could be no confusion. Between Cheval Blanc and Cheval-Blanc, the hyphen of discord has spoken.
