Each producer has their own recipe for production and distillation, which varies depending on the region, water quality, smoking process, etc. There is an enormous variety of whiskies, ranging from "malt whisky", made from germinated barley, dried in a peat oven, crushed (maltose), mixed with water and finally distilled, to "single malt whisky", whisky from a single source, without blending, "pure malt", a blend of whiskies made from malted barley from different distilleries, the most popular choice among connoisseurs, or "blended", a blend of several different types of whisky, malt and grain. Grain whisky contains a varying proportion of other cereals (wheat, rye, corn). Vatted malt is a blend of several single malts. Single single is a single malt from a single cask. Finally, cask strength is an unblended spirit, with an alcohol content of around 60% ABV, which is not diluted when bottled.
90% of the whisky consumed worldwide is blended. However, since the early 1970s, the consumption of "pure malt" has grown significantly.
All over the world, people are trying to imitate Scotch whisky, which remains inimitable.
