The history of the Tursan vineyard is unique, with a very special method of storing wine in the Middle Ages. As the Adour river had not yet been diverted to Bayonne, the locality of Le Boucau was used as a port for shipping barrels. Merchants used the dunes to bury their barrels in the sand while waiting for them to be loaded onto ships. This practice had an effect on the ageing and development of the wines.
