Definition: Tokay d'Alsace

This name, or simply Tokay or Tokay-Pinot Gris, has long been used in Alsace to refer to Pinot Gris. To avoid any confusion with the famous Hungarian Tokaji (Tokay) made from Furmint rather than Pinot Gris, an agreement was signed to respect the Hungarian designation Tokaji (Tokay) and ban the use of the term Tokay in Alsace from 2005 onwards.
