Finally, the toast tradition is said to have originated in Great Britain, in connection with17th-century beer drinkers. At that time, beer was often consumed near the fireplace. It was customary to roast pieces of bread in the fire and then add this toasted bread to the beer to absorb any impurities. Another explanation is that at the beginning of the banquet, lords would drink in honour of the ladies, while dropping a piece of toast into the bottom of their glasses. The glass was then passed from mouth to mouth, before returning to the person who had "made the toast" in honour of the lady of his heart. He would eat the toasted bread, hoping that his wish would come true. The choice is yours.
